Finally, just before summer 2020 my web site reached to it's first milestone. It is going on line!
This webpage was created during covid-19 lockdown. It might sound silly, but the forced home office gave me some extra time as I didn't need to commute to my office. And time was extra even if suddenly three kids wanted to share my home office with their home school.
Nevertheless, a project that was long time on my list was to program a fully functional web site running on Python Flask backend. Sure, I can imagine everyone asking why one needs to 'program' their own web site. There are number of web site builders that spin up your site or blog in a few minutes. For example WordPress, Webly, Wix or similar may had caught your ear already. Using Flask on other side was a looooong journey thru advanced Flask mega tutorial by Miguel Grinberg, and another very didactic YouTube channel by Corey Schafer!
Yet here it is, a fully flexible home page. It helped me to learn from building dynamic pages with forms and templating, thru user login management, email notifications, language translations, till deploying to a cloud hosted linux server backed with MySQL database and secure protocols. Bootstrap make-up was just an extra. But most important of it, a custom page might allow me to try out advanced applications written in Python also outside of the cosy PC environment. So, machine learning and software vision that I learned in past few years might perhaps even find some new usage.
One last thing. Site is conceptualized as a family blog. The content will be family stories, and full access to blog will only be granted to family and close friends.
